Meaningful Gift Ideas for Friends and Family

"Looking back at my favorite holiday memories growing up, I rarely recall specific toys or gifts I received, but I can describe in happy detail the annual gathering with cousins at my grandparent's home, the John Denver music on the stereo, our nemesis sledding hill, the cardboard fireplace to hang the stockings, and the very competitive games of spoons! In the rush to find the "perfect" gifts, I try to remember that for most of us the best gifts of all are shared experiences and time together. When I do shop I try to support local businesses and eateries, and/or plan activities that can be done together with the recipient. Some of my favorite experiential gifts to give (and receive!) have been theatre, sports, or event outings, planning Midwest road trips, classes with a local art center, chef/kitchen, or mixologist, spa days, national park passes, a year of intentional monthly visits to go through old photos with my parents. Simple and thoughtful are always in season! (Of course, if you prefer to gift a Womb Chair, I know a guy.)"
